Post-season Morocco trip cancelled after Casablanca bombing
19 May: The Ajax management has decided to cancel Ajax
post-season trip to Casablanca, Morocco, due to the terrorist
bombings in the Moroccan metropole that killed at least twenty
people on Friday night. This means that Ajax's 04 June friendly
against Le Raja Club Athlétic de Casablanca will not be
played.
Four blasts in total were heard on serval locations in
downtown Casablanca on Friday night. The Belgian consulacy, a
Spanish restaurant and several Jewish buildings were seriously
damaged. According to the local authorities one or more car
bombs were used for the attack. Also, at least two of the
bombers were suicide bombers. Casablanca is known as a very
'western' city. The bombings are believed to be committed by
terrorists linked to the Al-Qaeda network.
Ajax has decided that it would be irresponsible to visit the
area after the tragic events. The club has not yet announced
whether a new post-season fixture will be added to the agenda.
