Surgery required: season over for Mauro Rosales
16 April: The 2004-2005 season is over for right winger
Mauro Rosales. The Argentinian had to be stretchered off
with an ankle injury in the Eredivisie home game against Willem
II on 07 April. The ligament of his right ankle now appears to
be so seriously damaged that surgery will be
necessary. Which means that Rosales will be out for the
remaining six Eredivisie games,
plus Thursday's Amstel Cup semi-final and - possibly
- the final.

Mauro Damian Rosales (24) joined Ajax on
30 August 2004, immediately after having won the Olympic
gold medal with Argentina. The Eredivisie was three
games underway at that point. Rosales made his début for
Ajax in the Eredivisie away game at ADO Den Haag on 12
September 2004. He made quite an impression in his first
months as an Ajacied, but - like many of his team-mates
- struggled to find the right form after the winter
break.
Rosales saw action in 22 Eredivisie
games, 6 matches in UEFA competition, 2 Amstel Cup
games and 2 friendlies. He scored five goals in the Dutch
league (Ajax.nl even give Rosales the credit
for De Graafschap defender Dave Bus' own goal on
20 November 2004, putting six goals behind Rosales'
name). The speedy winger also netted once in the Amstel
Cup.
Rosales will go under the knife sometime next week and will
return to the Ajax-1 squad for the first training session in
early July. (MP)
