Six Ajacieden in provisional Holland World Cup squad
21 April: Oranje bosses Marco van Basten and
John van 't Schip have officially presented their provisional
squad of 33 players for this summer's World Cup in
Germany. The list contains the names of six Ajax players,
namely Maarten Stekelenburg, Urby Emanuelson, Hedwiges Maduro,
Wesley Sneijder, Ryan Babel and... (his first call-up!)
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
Ten players will drop out in the next three weeks. Most of
the players in the provisional squad are due in the
coastal town of Noordwijk on 09 May for a training camp of
three days. On Monday 15 May Van Basten and Van 't Schip will
announce their definitive squad of 23 players for the World
Cup. On the same day Foppe de Haan, boss of the Young
Oranje (U-21) team, will announce his squad of 22
players for the European Championship for U-21 national teams,
which will be played in Portugal from 23 May to 04
June. It is highly likely that a number of the
younger players who will drop of the Oranje
squad will be added to De Haan's squad.
