Contract renewal 'til summer 2010 for Kenneth Vermeer
02 February: Goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer has agreed a
contract renewel with Ajax. At the Amsterdam ArenA the 21
year-old reserve goalie committed to the Amsterdam club until
30 June 2010. His exisiting contract would have expired two
years earlier, in the summer of 2008.
Kenneth Vermeer (born Amsterdam, 10 January 1986) came all
the way through Ajax's youth ranks and and is seen by many
as the future goalkeeper of Ajax's first team. The current
season is the first season in which Vermeer officially belongs
to the first squad. He made his 'unofficial' first team
début on
08 July 2006 in the pre-season friendly against
amateur side JOS Watergraafsmeer. His official début
followed on
28 September of the same year, in the UEFA Cup home
game against Norway's IK Start, Vermeer's only official
Ajax-1 appearance to date.
At the moment Kenneth Vermeer is the third man in the
pecking order, behind Maarten Stekelenburg and Dennis
Gentenaar. Earlier this season the goalkeeper pointed out that
it might be good idea to move to an Eredivisie side
on loan, in order to gain experience on the highest level.
Kenneth Vermeer is a starter for Young Oranje, the
Dutch under-21 national team, with which he clinched the
European championship in The Netherlands in the summer of 2006.
