Perez accepts KNVB proposal: five games' suspension
02 December: Kenneth Perez will be suspended
for Ajax's next five Eredivisie games and he
will also pay a fine of 12,500 euros for his racist abuse of
linesman Nicky Siebert during Ajax vs FC Twente (19 November).
Ajax and the Danish forward have accepted a settlement proposal
from the KNVB prosecutor. The punishment is accordance with the
standard, world wide FIFA penalty for racist behaviour in
football.
Bow your head in shame, accept your punishment like a man
and move on a wiser person. That is the bottom line of the
personal statement Kenneth Perez published on Ajax.nl, the
official Ajax website.
"I accept the punishment proposed by
the KNVB. Firstly, out of respect for the people
I have hurt with my remark. Furthermore, I wish to end this
matter in the interest of my family, my club and my
teammates. Reason tells me that accepting this punishment
is the best way to end the public discussion, which
has contributed to a punishment that I feel is a
b disproportionally severe. I have already expressed my
deepest regrets about what happened during Ajax - FC Twente on
Sunday 19 November. I want to emphasize again that I am not a
racist, but - in the heat of the moment
- inadvertently used a discriminating remark, as a term of
abuse. As I have said last week I will make a financial
contribution to a charitable cause and I hope
the KNVB will do the same thing with my fine."
Kenneth Perez will also host a football clinic for children
in the Amsterdam suburb of Bijlmermeer, the district where
the large part of Amsterdam's African population lives.
The first game Kenneth Perez will miss is Ajax vs Willem II
on Sunday 03 December. He will be eligible again for the last
Eredivisie fixture of 2006: the away game at NEC in Nijmegen on
30 December. (MP)
