Ajax USA

Hotels

Ajax USA is not a travel agency. We do not make hotel arrangements. We also do not have ANY relationship with the hotels listed on this page. (Alas, no kickbacks. There is simply no end to ways we fail to make money from this web site!) But not to worry; our savvy members and friends have frequented many of the countless hotels, hostels, park benches and -- yes -- police drunk tanks of Amsterdam. We've had positive experiences at the following places. (Any prices we list below are guaranteed to be out of date! Please confirm prices when booking any hotel!) Comments in quotes come directly from said savvy travelers, and have not been independently verified by Ajax USA.

Hotel Hortus

A very basic one-star hotel, just a notch above a youth hostel. Social, affordable, well located and extremely Ajax-friendly. The common room (with a pool table, a TV  with ESPN & Sky Sports, free Internet access and a beer-stocked vending machine) usually serves as our meeting place during Ajax USA's Rendezvous in Amsterdam events. Due to the open social activities (read: pot-smoking), we don't recommend the Hortus for travelers with children. It's a block from the metro, and very close to Waterlooplein and the Red Light district. No Single rooms. Doubles & Twins: 50 Euros. Rooms with 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 beds available. Prices include breakfast. The quickest way to reserve a room is to call the hotel directly at 0031-(0)20-625-9996 (from U.S.: 011-31-20-625-9996). You can also email them at info@hotelhortus.com. (Never provide credit card information in email!) You can also make a reservation on-line by visiting the Hotel Hortus website. The Hotel Hortus does not require a deposit. You will be asked to confirm your reservation a few days prior to arrival, and you must pay cash in Euros on arrival; Hotel Hortus does not accept credit cards or other forms of payment.

Hotel Ibis Stopera

A very comfortable three-star hotel near Waterlooplein in central Amsterdam. I stayed at the Ibis Stopera on our first group trip to Amsterdam in 2001, and it's still my personal favorite. But it's significantly more expensive than the Hortus. Ibis Stopera usually offers a lower (midweek) rate for those booking longer stays. Book via their website or by calling the hotel directly. The manager is Mr Paul van Ommen. Tel : (+31)20-531-9135 / Fax : (+31) 20-531-9145

Hotel De Paris

"It's not exactly luxurious, but it is central (on Marnixstraat near Leidseplein), clean and quite cheap."  This hotel apparently does not have its own web site, but you can book online via a variety of travel aggregator websites: Hotels.nl | Hoteliers.com | Expedia (or do a Google search on "Hotel de Paris, Amsterdam" for many other options.)

Hotel Donna

"Every one of my friends that has ever stayed at Hotel Donna on Stadhouderskade has been happy, although rooms there are about 80E."
